Dear PES Families,

RED RIBBON WEEK, which is celebrated annually October 23-31, is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program.

Red Ribbon Week was started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.  As a tribute to SA Camarena, his high school friend, Henry Lozano, and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their opposition to drugs. This led to the observation of Red Ribbon Week.

At PES we will have daily announcements about drug prevention awareness during our morning announcements as well as theme days for the week as we have in years past. The themes are as follows:

Monday: Crazy Hair Day

Tuesday: Pajama Day

Wednesday: Twin Day

Thursday: Hat Day

Friday: Halloween Costumes (Halloween information will be sent home Friday via email and in our weekend newsletter)

For your ease our flyer for Red Ribbon Week is attached to this post. This will also be emailed via School Messenger and PES Facebook page.
